Data Analysts– The Game Changers
Just as the name suggests, a person who analysis things.
Every corporation has an Analyst. But what do they do exactly?
At the age of ample information we need to collect, sort out, process, and perform statistical data analyses on the information to make it coherent. This is precisely what an analyst does.
But what is the sudden surge in the requirement for analysts?
90% of all the data has been created in the last 4 years. This is a mind boggling amount of information. Now an analyst will be able to source the data and utilize it effectively. From data to sales analysts there are teams in every office that focuses on the utility of this vast amount of information. When the numbers are understood it makes it easier to make informed decisions dependent on the time, effort and money of people.
If we see the global market where there is a sudden change in how the organizations have become so specialized in its day to day operations then we can understand that each task to a particular person has been monitored and the time frame is set. This provides efficiency in the processes but in many cases the connectivity between the product and its marketing is ignored.
Here comes the role of an analyst, who acts as a mediator between information technology and business leaders to take a data driven decision for a smooth business delivery not only at a department level but also at organization level.
How do they Analyze the data?
A set of specific tools used could start from our trust Microsoft spreadsheets. But they don’t go beyond a million rows. For data tangled up with even more need for space come advanced tools of computing like SQL (Structural Query Learning). It isn’t enough to pick the necessary data but also to present it. It just wouldn’t be feasible to have courses to just read the data given.
Basic statistics, calculating the average, learning R and just an innate curiosity to data and its manipulations are necessary tools and skills of an analyst. Through this one can study patterns of demand and supply of the market and invest smartly.
Importance of the Analyst today
Even with so much variety in the sources of the collected data it is hard to trust its accuracy. After the step of basic computing there is a need for discretion of a human. The importance of an analyst is clearly visible as every company requires a team of these data junkies.
A good analyst can tell a story with all the seemingly insipid data. The ability to connect the dots and visualize the data in order to make it coherent to the rest of an ideal dunce is paramount. Technical expertise in coding and statistics skills based on the domain one wants to be an expert at is harnessed.
Today, each one of us contribute to the data being produced every day, I’m guilty of it by just writing this article. With 4.4 billion people using the internet an analyst is capable of making sense of this chaos we’re faltering through.
